Step-By-Step Video

I paid $289 for a CMS because their support offered a
way to find the answers I needed quickly.
Yet Joomla works better. |
oomla is a powerful Content Management System (CMS).
But like the engine of a Boeing 747, its' pretty complex.
You can't harness that power if your engine is all over the floor in boxes. Just as you can't use Joomla effectively without good training...
That means you can spend hours, or days, searching around...trying to figure out how to do the most basic things - like install Joomla. Or work with images.
Do you really need to do a Manual Installation?
There's actually an easy way to take care of everything in about 2 mintues - MYSQL database creation, changing the file permissions, even uploading the files.
But even if you do have to do a Manual Installation - it doesn't have to be hard. But it can be confusing if you're just reading the instructions.
Most people are visually oriented - they learn faster by watching things demonstrated.
That's why these videos were created - to take you step-by-step through the whole process.
From installing a site, to setting up your content, images, and even placing revenue-producing RSS feeds and banners.
Watch as we show you how to set up your index page. The whole process is clearly illustrated. You don't have to waste time decoding the instructions. Or even figure out when to do each aspect of setup.
| Hi Rebecca Thanks |
How many times have you searched a forum or ran through a list of websites, to find entries that only half answered your question?
Maybe the answer was buried in a long explanation on all the different, more advanced features like modules.
Or in overly technical descriptions that use the special 'Joomla names' for things you and I know as something quite different.
Now - there's nothing wrong with jargon. Except when it fails to communicate.
Joomla is not difficult to run, but you do need to approach it in a different way if you're used to HTML sites.
If you follow the right instructions, and trim out the ones you don't need right now, it's actually pretty easy.
When you're busy, you appreciate concise training that gets the job done.
And because Joomla is so complex, you need training unless you already have experience with content management systems.
Otherwise it becomes a trade-off with time. There's no doubt you can sift through all the information out there on your own and figure it out. But that takes time. A lot of time.
The question is - do you want the answers quickly, or slowly?
I don't know about you, but I find it pretty frustrating getting new software installed without clear instructions.
A year and a half ago, I was looking for a content management system. I looked at some of the free ones, but couldn't figure out how to get them installed. And what to do with them past that point.
I had no idea how to manage my content once I got the site up. - add articles, pictures, audios, or videos.
I wanted to be able to make the changes I needed, whenever I needed. I didn't want to have to rely on someone else to do it.
And I knew if - I was just told directly - it would be easy.
So, I looked through the forums, but couldn't find the answers I wanted.
In the end I decided to get a paid content management system, because they offered to install it as part of the deal, and provided ongoing support
The price tag was $289.00 - for a single user license.
But at that stage I was so frustrated, I was more than willing to buy it just to find out how everything worked.
Now, $289.00 may sound like a lot of money for one domain. But let me tell you, I was happy when I paid it. I had more than enough to do already.
Designing And Building A Website That Keeps VisitorsDo you really know how to design and build a website? Get this wrong, and you'll lose visitors. These free weekly tips will make sure you never make that mistake. |
Content Management Systems are more complicated than regular, HTML sites when it comes to search engine optimization. Once you've got your CMS installed, there are a lot of little decisions you need to take so it's set up properly.
For example, you may have noticed some URL's with a lot of numbers and symbols after them. Like: http://www.somecontentmanagementsystem.com/article.php?catid=42209&artid=89200
These are called dynamic URL's. They are usually long, and difficult to remember.
Your visitors won't remember them. They look meaningless. And the search engines have trouble indexing them. This means all your hard work can go to waste in terms of ranking well in their organic search results.
Joomla creates these types of URL's by default. But, it can also create search engine friendly URL's. With the right steps taken in setting up your site, the above URL might look something like:
http://www.somecontentmanagementsystem.com/categoryname/keyword-rich-page.php
Not only will your visitors be able to relate to the page better - they may actually remember it!
And the search engines prefer those type of URL's. It all comes down to setting the foundations of your site up correctly first.
Which URL do you think would get more clicks in the natural search results?
Content management systems like Joomla have huge advantages over static HTML sites when it comes to search engine optimization and getting traffic.
They have a lot more flexibility built in
They automatically create RSS feeds of your content.
This gives you another opportunity to get links to your site (in the RSS directories). And
people can subscribe to your feeds.
Plus, many people use RSS feeds on their website, so you can
get traffic from them as well.
Users can add content, comments, or questions directly
to your pages. Interactivity is a big part of 'Web 2'. People like being able to leave comments
and questions. You can get valuable feedback from your visitors.
And it means you get fresh content
added to your site with no extra work on your part!
When I look at Joomla compared to the CMS I paid for, Joomla wins hands down.
Joomla sites look great.
You have a lot more control over where you want to
put your different types of content.
There are a lot more templates to choose from.
It's free!
The only thing that Joomla lacks is clear instructions on how to install and set it up properly.
Instructions that regular people, not programmers, can understand.
Sure, there are ebooks out there. Amazon also sells big, thick manuals that tell you everything you could possible ever want - or not want - to know about Joomla. They make an interesting read when you've got some time on your hands.
But if you're busy, it's a different story.
| So far I've purchased one set of video training and two books on Joomla. They don't start at the beginning, except for the install, and from there they sort of jump around. Are your Joomla! videos a step by step process to help after the installation to get an understanding of how to make a fully functional site? Thanks |
